Car wash, coffee and cake raises funds for Mexican Adventure

Date published: 22 April 2017

Girlguiding members from 32nd Rochdale Senior Section, based at Thrum Hall Church, Shawclough, held a Car Wash, Coffee and Cake event on Saturday to help them raise funds for an upcoming international adventure.

Seven young women aged 14 plus, and their leaders are getting ready to embark on the journey of a lifetime – travelling to Mexico this summer to volunteer with various community projects there, visit one of the Guiding World Centres (Our Cabana), and to discover more about the country, it’s people, culture and heritage.

The Car Wash, Coffee and Cake event  raised £218.

Cleo Newbury, a Senior Section member, aged 16, said: “I am really excited to be going to Mexico, and we are that bit closer now we’ve raised this money.”

Wendy James, Senior Section Leader, said: “Thanks to everyone who supported today’s event. International trips are fantastic opportunities for our young women, and it’s great that Girlguiding can give them this experience.”

Fellow Leader, Emily-Kate Foster added: “We’d also like to thank Tetrosyl for their kind donation of sponges and car shampoo; Cleansweep UK for their jet-wash; and Airpure for air-fresheners to give to everyone who came along today, it’s very much appreciated”.

The group has been working over the last 12 months to fund raise for the trip and has various events lined up between now and when they travel in July.
