The community of Littleborough pulled together with a fancy dress walk on Saturday to raise vital funds for Samantha Smith, who urgently requires life-saving neurosurgery in America.

Samantha, who lives in Smithy Bridge, suffers from a rare genetic condition and desperately needs to raise £150,000 in just four months. Over £15,000 has been raised already for the single mum of two, but there is still a long way to go.

Superheroes, stormtroopers, minions and even chickens gathered together at Hare Hill Park, where Wardle Junior Blast played uplifting tunes to get everyone ready to march, and a 40-strong group completed the walk from the park to Hollingworth Lake.

The local residents of Littleborough dug deep, and over £500 has been raised so far, with sponsorship money still coming in.

Samantha was hospitalised with tachycardia the day before the event so was unable to attend. She continued to maintain her good spirits and said: “I feel so blessed to have all those beautiful people out there supporting me on the fancy dress walk.

“I'm sorry I couldn't be there due to my hospital admission the day before. I'm feeling much better and will attend as many events as possible.”
