Date published: 23 May 2017

Children and staff at St Peter’s Church of England Primary School in Rochdale have been celebrating this week with an ice-cream treat, after being praised by Ofsted as a ‘Good school with Outstanding features’.

Children and staff were excited to see a Mr Whippy ice cream van pulling up on the school playground and rewarding every child and member of staff with an ice-cream and choice of topping.

Aelred Whelan, Headteacher was clearly delighted saying: “Everyone deserved a treat.
“I am so proud of all the children and staff, they all work so hard and are so well mannered and excellently behaved.

“Over the last few years we have worked tirelessly to bring about the improvements needed, not just in the learning environment and school grounds but also in the quality of teaching the children receive. This report is great recognition of what a fantastic school we now are.”

Inspectors deemed the behaviour of the pupils at this thriving school to be ‘Outstanding’ heaping the school with praise stating, ‘The respect shown by pupils to each other and staff makes a strong contribution towards the happy, warm and welcoming environment which exists in this harmonious school community’.

The leadership and management team were also commended as ‘Outstanding’ focusing on the rapid improvements made since the appointment of the present headteacher, in September 2014.
