Former pupil, Axel Tuanzebe, makes Reserve Team Player of the Year

Axel Tuanzebe has been named as the Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year for 2016/17.

The stylish defender collected 84 per cent of the votes from the Reds fans to claim the award ahead of second-placed Josh Harrop and Demi Mitchell.

After starting the last three Premier League games, the Academy product is bidding to force his way into the squad for the Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm next week.

Tuanzebe has been a rock at the back and a real leader for the Reserves all season, captaining the side and impressing from the outset. He made 25 appearances in total at that level, scoring once - in the away game at Chelsea in December.

LINC News

Alice Ingham R.C. Primary School were our special guests this week. It was the first of three promotional activities we have arranged for the Year 4 class.

All of the sessions are based around the students marketing their Primary Schools in three different ways. This morning it was radio work with Mrs Moore and Mr Brown in the Learning and Innovation Centre. All of the students created a slot for their radio broadcast including a jingle, selling points and an interview about an event in school. They tied the show together by selecting commercial radio adverts and songs to complete their broadcasts.

During the morning, the students also had the opportunity to complete a radio quiz by identifying songs, theme tunes and TV adverts. We listened to the completed radio shows through our built-in classroom sound system and copies the team’s efforts were put onto a disk for the class teacher to share with the rest of the school. The students thoroughly enjoyed their morning and we are looking forward to seeing the group again when they are in Year 5.

Buddies Breakfast

As a reward for commitment to the Reading Buddies, Mrs Russell treated Year7s and their reading partners to a Flapjack and OJ breakfast. Everyone played Brainbox to test their powers of observation and reading.

Pupils in year 7 who attend regularly have made excellent progress this term and we are very grateful to the volunteers who help encourage and support them with their reading. If any pupils in year 9 or 10 are interested in helping out with the Reading Buddies please speak to Miss Holt, Miss Bell or Mrs Russell.

Rounders

The Year 9 Rounders team competed in the Greater Manchester Catholic Cup on Tuesday evening giving a great account of themselves against some tough opponents and eventually finishing in 3rd place. There were some outstanding performances from all of the team:

Ellie Bullock (c), Ellie Gillespie, Daisy O'Neil, Gaby Law Mantelvanos, Beth Broadbent, Ruth Stott, Nondja Tavares, Oliwia Lis, Delphine Nonleh, Millie Walsh

Chaplaincy News

We are very proud of our Pupil Chaplains and Music Liturgy Group at St Cuthbert's.
They give up their own time each week to meet and help to move the faith life of our school forward.

Our three newest Pupil Chaplains were commissioned in their role, together with new members of the Music Liturgy Group by Fr Gaspar at a special Mass in our chapel.
Fr Gaspar spoke to them about the importance of and happiness to be gained from being of service to others.

Pupils were then presented with their certificates and lapel badges and group photographs taken.

Health & Social Class make tough decisions

The Year 10 Health and Social Care classes had a session on commissioning delivered by Joe and Ellie from Greater Manchester Youth Services.

The class were set the challenge of deciding which services Rochdale's NHS budget would fund, they were ruthless. All enjoyed the session and learnt a lot about the financial demands on the NHS.
