The Bishop of Middleton's first day of the Thy Kingdom Come prayer walk was met with glorious sunshine and a welcome which matched the weather.

The day began with the first prayer in Middleton at All Saints and Martyr's church, moving onwards to Middleton Parish school.

Afterwards an inspiring visit to Brentwood day centre led to a blessing and prayer for all.

The congregation followed the Bishop into Heywood Town Centre where prayer was given to all.

A quick refreshment stop in Morrisons supermarket led to a emotional gathering at Heywood memorial garden where victims of the Manchester bombing were remembered and their families prayed for.

A brief visit to the cellar project followed and then prayer at St Luke's as the prayer walk continued.

A visit to St Michael's school to bless a bench led to a well needed drink and ice cream with newly baptised Iranian Christians. The walk continued to Rochdale Cemetery and ended for evening prayer at St Mary on the Baum.

The Bishop of Middleton expressed his gratitude for all those had prepared the way for him to come and for all the wonderful conversations he had experienced.

He said: "It is fantastically beautiful and wonderful when we get out of buildings and we walk our streets and we're in community and for community and pray Thy Kingdom Come."
