Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 12 September 2017

Another fabulous Hamer year begins! Thank you to all our parents for sending the children in looking smart and feeling prepared for the start of another school year.

Additionally, Mr Moore would like to thank everyone for his very warm “welcome back” on the school gates this week, and he can’t tell you how happy that he is to be back at our school as Headteacher and is really looking forward to working with our wonderful Hamer families again this year. Welcome back everyone.

We would like to wish a warm welcome to:

  • Mr Barraclough - year 5 teacher
  • Mrs Brown - year 1 teacher
  • Mrs Howarth year 5/6 teaching assistant
  • Mrs Akhtar lunchtime organiser
  • Miss Weaver is now Mrs Elliott – year 6 teacher

Attendance reporting will begin again on the newsletter next week. Let’s aim for 100%. School begins at 8.45am each day and finishes at 3.15pm. Punctuality and attendance every day is an important factor in determining the children educational possibilities.

We work hard to make sure no children miss sessions unnecessarily and will always follow up absences to see where they can be avoided and to see how school can support and encourage the fullest attendance and punctuality rates possible. We thank parents in advance of their support with this fundamental aspect of our work with your fabulous children.

Just a reminder that all children should keep to the guidelines of the uniform policy and some huge congratulations in general for the way this has begun everything. Also, we will be revising the policy so that it is non-gender specific.

Uniform is uniform and the rest is down to child and family choice and whatever elements are worn will be received warmly in every individual case.

Please remember, no children to wear big flowers in the hair, just simple clips or alice bands, and, for health and safety reasons, no earrings or heeled shoes.

Thank you. Before the school holidays we noticed a few pupils wearing red polo shirts. Please note the Hamer uniform is a white polo shirt and red jumper.

Our Breakfast club starts at 8am. There are lots of fun activities and games for the children to play and they can choose from a range of cereals and toast and a drink to get them off to a good start. The cost is £1 per day. Please can parents speak to Mrs Flynn in the school office for more details.

A letter has been sent home about our new Late Collection Policy. Unfortunately, due to increasing numbers of late collections after school last year, we are having to introduce charges for any children picked up late at the end of the school day.

The letter outlines the main points but the full policy can be found on the school website. A copy can also be requested from school. Please can parents take the time to read this information. Thankyou.

Details of all our extra-curricular clubs have already been sent out.

The dates they will start are: Dance club - Friday 15th, Football club - Monday 18th, Netball - Wednesday 20th, Gymnastics - Thursday 21st.

This year we are very excited to offer a girl only football team. Clubs will be run by Ed Start and Sally Samba.

Please can parents make sure that PE kits are in school, these can be taken home at the end of the half term to be washed and brought back in again. Thank you.

For health and safety reason ‘hot’ packed lunches are not allowed in school and packed lunches need to arrive with the children at the start of the school day.

Please remember that Dinner Money is now £10.50 per week.

Last year a letter was sent out to all of Year 2 parent’s informing them that automatic entitlement to a Universal Infant Free School Meal finishes at the end of Year 2.

Children who are now in Year 3 are not entitled to a Universal Free School Meal. If parents think that their child is having a school dinner, but you think you may be entitled to Free Meals please call into the School Office as soon as possible to collect a form to fill in.

If the meantime parents must either pay for the school dinners, send them in with a packed lunch or request to take them home. Once we receive confirmation of entitlement, any dinner money paid can be backdated and refunded to the date the entitlement started.
