Students and staff at Rochdale Sixth Form College growing a moustache to support and raise funds for The Movember Foundation

Throughout the month of November, students and staff members at Rochdale Sixth Form College have been putting their shaving kits away and growing a moustache to support and raise funds for The Movember Foundation.

According to The Movember Foundation, men die on average six years earlier than women – an astonishing statistic. The Movember foundation is the only global charity focused solely on men’s health.

Throughout the month of November, the Students’ Union have been sharing information about men’s health on the screens around the college, via posters and also by hosting tutorials open to all who wish to attend.

On the last day of November, they will be running a fundraising day where staff and students will be encouraged to make donations and support the cause.

A-Level student and President of the Students’ Union Abubaker Mohammed, who is currently growing his moustache for Movember, said: “If growing a moustache for one month in the year can help raise awareness about men’s health then I am happy to get involved. It is a really fun way to get across such a serious message and it hopefully will remind men to talk about any health issues that they may have in the future.”

Jack Lyons, Teaching Assistant and Students’ Union Co-Ordinator, said: “Movember is a great cause and it has been nice to see so many staff and students get on board with growing their moustaches.

"Men’s health is an area that we do not talk about enough - the discussions between staff and students this month will help start to reverse that.”
