Local nine-year-old Lucie Foster from Queensway, Rochdale wowed football fans during a match when she dazzled the crowd with her skills.
The talented youngster took part in a half-time ten-minute game with the Pennine Reds U9 team during a match between Burnley and Arsenal on Sunday 26 November where she showed off her talent.
One of Lucie’s coaches, Paul Brown, arranged a day out for the team to go and train at Burnley Football Club, then to watch the match against Arsenal - Lucie's first ever football game.
Lucie is now in her second season with the Pennine Reds, who play in the North Bury Junior League on Saturday mornings. Last season, she was awarded Manager’s Player of the Year for her efforts during her debut season in the game and is often voted player of the match by parents of the opposing team.
Proud mum Toni Smith commented: “Lucie is football mad; she’s always liked the sport. She’s such a big fan and supports Manchester United. She wowed the crowd with her skills. She’s not a very girly-girl: football is literally all of her life.”
Such is Lucie’s love for the sport, she also plays for Shawclough on Sundays.
Coach Paul Brown, said: “Lucie is amazing to coach; she’s one of the few who really listens during her training and takes this into each game. She’s the only girl on the team and has developed a reputation as one of the toughest tacklers. She certainly stands out with her skill and quality, and really complements the team.
“We’ve been coaching her for two years and she’s progressed so much since then. She’s a modest girl who takes everything in her stride, but she’s really going to go far.
“Lucie is a joy to watch and coach and she’s definitely one to watch in the future.”
