Hopwood Hall College students accept Christmas Mission

Students and staff from Hopwood Hall College collect donations

Students from Hopwood Hall College answered the ‘Mission Christmas’ call by collecting gift donations for disadvantaged local children.

Both Hopwood Hall’s Rochdale and Middleton campuses registered as Rochdale collection points, taking in donations from staff, students and members of the public since early November.

Once the people of Rochdale had filled the donation boxes five weeks later, students studying at Hopwood Hall’s Technology Centre delivered the donations to the Mission Christmas headquarters in Manchester.

According to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s 2016 report, 11 Greater Manchester constituencies featured in the top 30 most deprived areas in England. The 2016 Mission Christmas appeal raised £2.9million in gifts and cash; improving Christmas Day for over 61,800 local children.

Hopwood Hall Motor Vehicle student, Anthony McNair, said of his Mission Christmas experience:  “This is my first year at Hopwood Hall, so this the first time I have been able to take part in one of our charity events.

“I have enjoyed it a lot, you do not realise how bad some kids have it at Christmas until you read the stories.”
