Hopwood Hall students and staff take part in the Santa Stroll

Students and staff at Hopwood Hall College broke up for Christmas with a fundraising day for Cancer Research UK, raising £546.37.

Despite heavy rain, over 100 people (and three ponies) took part in the 'Santa Stroll'; a 5km group walk around the surrounding areas of Hopwood Hall Middleton campus raising £318.83.

The college’s iLearn centres ran a 'Paperlink Challenge' and an iPad raffle at the Rochdale and Middleton campuses, making over 1,000 decorative Christmas links and raising a further £227.54.

Level Three games development student, Ben Hayes, went home with an early Christmas present as the iPad winner.

Caroline Street, Hopwood Hall College executive director, organised the Santa Stroll with the Health and Wellbeing team, she said: “We try our best throughout the year to raise as much money as we can for charity and in particular the charity that is chosen by our staff and students that year. This year we are raising money for Cancer Research UK, which is a charity close to many of our hearts.

“I would like to thank all the students and staff who braved the horrendous weather conditions to raise over £300 during the Santa Stroll, and to the 1,000 plus people who created ‘messages of positivity’ links in the iLearn Centre’s Paperchain Challenge.”
