Middleton Rotary Club escorted Santa around the streets of Middleton

Date published: 23 December 2017

Middleton Rotary Club escorted Santa around the streets of Middleton collecting donations which the club will distribute to community groups and charities in Middleton.

Starting on Tuesday 5 December club members escorted Santa for eleven weekday evenings up until Wednesday 20 to the delight of the children (and parents) in the Middleton area.

Keith Trinnaman, who helped coordinate Christmas float, said: “It has been one of the most successful Christmas periods that we have experienced.

“We have had tremendous support from volunteers outside Rotary from local groups and charities as well as club members themselves. I would like to thank each and every one who has helped this year, without this help we really would struggle to keep the fantastic tradition going. When you see the joy that it brings to so many in the community it is a tradition that we must continue to bring to Middleton.

“In the street collections the people of Middleton have donated £5,082 over the eleven evenings, and we also had a day at Middleton Tesco on Saturday 16 when we raised a further £692.”

The net proceeds of the Christmas collection get ploughed back into the local community mainly through the club’s dragon's den initiative, where local groups and charities are invited into the club to present the reasons why they require funding.

Middleton Rotary Club President Janice Powell said: “Our dragon's den process helps bring the club and the local community closer together, the support we have received during our collections is proof of this.

“I cannot thank the local community enough for their generosity, it really is so heartening to know that we at Middleton Rotary serve within a community that proves itself, year after year, for their care and giving - long may it continue.”
