Hamer Primary School

The Children in Year 2 and Year 3 attended Times Tables Rockstars club this week. It was the first session of this club, which will run to half term, and children were very excited. Some time was spent in this session getting to know how well the children know their multiplication facts.

Next week, children will be playing games and accessing the Rockstars site in order to improve their speedy recall of these facts.

All children attending the club will have their own passwords and logins and will be able to access the site at home as well. Please can parents encourage this, as these are vital maths skills which need developing and ALL children are expected to know all of the multiplication facts up to and including 12X12 by the end of Year 4.

On this note, the current Year 2 children will be the first to sit the new Multiplication tables check in June 2020 which has been introduced by the current government,

Times tables Rockstars will be relaunched across the rest of school over the next few weeks and there will be an exciting competition to look out for. Watch this space!

The Maths Reasoning Clubs has been running for the past few years and is aimed at some of our higher achieving pupils in UKS2. A number of schools in our collaborative are involved and the club meets at various points throughout the year – usually on a Friday afternoon. As always, our students continue to represent both themselves and the school brilliantly.

We are celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 1 March and our theme for this year is ‘Magic and Muggles. Children are asked to bring in a donation of £1.00 and come dressed as something magical or, if preferred, as a muggle (a normal person). We look forward to seeing everyone next week and more details of events will follow.

There will be an assembly on Wednesday morning at 10:30am showcasing some of the photos and moments from the recent residential trip to Kingswood. Parents are welcome to attend if they wish.

Well done to Mr Barraclough Class with the best attendance for week ending  9 February. Hamer ‘Stars of the Week’ for week ending 23 February are:

  • Miss Nicholson - Zoya
  • Miss Davison - Iman
  • Mrs Booth - Aleena

  • Mr Lomax – Aliza
  • Mrs Elliott - Ramisa

Well done to all of our stars of the week and keep up the excellent work!

From Thursday 1 March the old £10 will not be legal tender, so from next Monday 26 February we will only be accepting the new £10 note.  Parents will still be able to go to the bank with them if they want to change them for other notes.

Citizens of the Week for the week ending Friday 23 February are Miss Davison’s Class for their amazing assembly about the “Enormous Crocodile” and also their work all about the Tudors.

Lots of parents are still sending in just £10.00 for a week’s dinner money.  May we remind parents that it is £10.50 per week and these missing 50p’s add up to quite a lot of money if not paid on a weekly basis.
