Castleton Carnival to return in 2019

Date published: 20 April 2018

Castleton Carnival is set to return in 2019.

After an 18-month fight by local businesswoman Claire Dring to bring the colourful event back to the streets, it has been confirmed that the parade will once again take place in the village.

She said: “The carnival will be coming back next year – yay! After 18 months at loggerheads with the highways, I have finally got them to agree a route. Unfortunately, it will not take place this year as it’s too late for paperwork submission.

Claire, owner of Forget Me Not, had attended the carnival for many years with her parents and her sister and children.

She began thinking about reviving the carnival after it was cancelled in 2010, when her then-three-year-old son had asked if they could go.

The parade route will start from the community centre on Manchester Road before crossing Queensway onto Albion Street, turning left onto New Church Street before finally ending at Castleton Primary School.

The carnival will take place  ona Sunday (to be determined).
