Selfless seven-year-old to donate hair to charity

Date published: 09 July 2018

A selfless seven-year-old has decided to donate her hair to charity and raise £250 for the cause.

Amelia May Rashid currently has hair down to her waist and is having it cut into a short bob for The Little Princess Trust on 19 July at Hairway to Heaven in Castleton.

Amelia May decided to help after she watched a film featuring a child sick with cancer, and asked her mum, Tara Rashid, how she could help poorly children.

Mrs Rashid said: “Amelia May is a very sensitive child who wears her heart on her sleeve. After watching the film, she asked how she can help children that get poorly, and after mentioning several different ways to help, she decided The Little Princess Trust would be a lovely way to help.

“Amelia May decided for herself as she has lots of long thick hair and some children have none, so ‘sharing is caring’ became her goal. Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for everyone’s kind sponsors and support for Amelia May’s haircut and for helping her accomplish a dream of hers, and thank you to Amanda at Hairway to Heaven.”

She continued: “Amelia May has a pure heart and wears it on her sleeve; she can’t walk past anyone in need of help. At Christmas, she received £10 in a card and asked if she could bring the money to Tesco. Off her own back, she picked up a sandwich, crisps and chocolate then asked for a hot chocolate from the café.

“I didn’t know why at first, but as we left the store, Amelia May stopped and gave it all to the gentleman sat outside homeless and said, ‘Merry Christmas’ and she smiled for the rest of the journey home.”

Amelia May originally wanted to raise £100 for the charity as well as donating her hair, but after hitting her goal within minutes, raised that to £250.

Mrs Rashid added: “We couldn’t be prouder of her.”
