Health and social care workers scoop formal qualifications

70 newly qualified Health and Social Care Workers have proved they possess the skills and knowledge that it takes to care for the people of Rochdale by successfully completing National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ).

The class of 2008 celebrated the fruits of their labour by accepting their certificates at a special awards lunch yesterday (Wednesday 15 October) at Rochdale Town Hall.

Council Chief Executive, Roger Ellis who attended the event on Wednesday, said: “I would like to congratulate every member of staff whose hard work and commitment has seen them earn these valuable qualifications. Rochdale Borough Council is proud to offer its employees the opportunities to acquire and develop the education and skills that will ultimately see the people of Rochdale receive a higher standard of service.”

Council employees across Rochdale have successfully gained accreditation in a broad range of subjects, including health and social care, mental health and learning disabilities.

As part of the council’s commitment to increasing staff opportunities for continued learning and development, new qualifications such as the Advice and Guidance NVQ and Housing NVQ have been provided for the first time this year.

The council is also a satellite centre for the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) and therefore offers Learning Disabilities Qualifications (LDQ) to new workers in the learning disabilities sector.
