Rowen to release 'second home' expense details

Date published: 19 May 2009

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen will be revealing details of his Parliamentary Expenses to Rochdale Online this Friday (22 May).

Rochdale Online reporter Jan Harwood will be visiting the Lib Dem MP's office to see all expenses incurred through his additional home allowance.

Mr Rowen said: “There have been a few data protection issues, as advised by the House and we were strongly advised to wait until they were resolved. I will be in a position on Friday to go through them and will be happy to answer questions that people have.

“As Rochdale’s MP, I have strived to be as transparent as possible and I am now pleased to be able to fully reveal my expenses. At the end of the day, tax payers have a right to know about every penny that is spent.

"The delay has been caused by data protection issues related to bank account and other personal details or private traders.

"I will be more than happy to field any questions.”

Previously known as the Additional Costs Allowance, this is the allowance that has become known as the 'second homes' allowance in the media.

The PAAE covers the cost of a mortgage or rent on a second home or hotel costs if an MP chooses to stay in a hotel rather than buy or rent an additional property.
