Advice day for disabled
Date published: 02/01/2008
An event for disabled people hopes to show people that having a disability does not have to hold them back. The 'Breaking the Barriers' event will take place later this month and aims to show that there is a wealth of support availble to disabled people. The event will take place at St Andrews United Reform Church on Tuesday 15 January.
Everyone is welcome between 11.00am and 1.30pm to ask questions and meet advisors from a variety of organisations, covering employment, training, education, transport, housing, health, benefits and direct payments.
Organiser Marj Doswell said: "We've got representatives from lots of useful organisations together in one place, so visitors can find out what's available, the benefits they are entitled to and anything else that could help them lead a more independent lifestyle."
Presentations on 'Access to Work' and 'Better off Calculations' will be given.
'Breaking the Barriers', organised by Rochdale Borough Council, includes a complimentary buffet lunch and will offer invaluable advice for disabled people and carers.
St Andrews United Reform Church Hall is next to Rochdale Bus Station. Anyone planning to attend can put forward a question in advance, book lunch and confirm any specific access requirements by contacting Marj Doswell.
