Police crack down on Rochdale drug life
Date published: 23/02/2005
Following a series of raids across Rochdale on Wednesday 23 February, officers have arrested 22 people from the Rochdale area due to durg related offences. The 20 men and 2 women are due to be questioned this afternoon. The raids were part of Operation Maxima, which is aimed at cracking down on drug-related crime in Rochdale.
Following the activity, Superintendent Mark GRANBY said:" I am extremely pleased with the outcome of this morning's raids. We have apprehended 22 people who we believe to have been involved in the supply of Class A controlled drugs. This can only serve to boost us up another rung of the ladder in our drive to make Rochdale a safer place to be.
The most obvious initial impact of these raids will be to diminish, substantially, the availability of controlled drugs in the inner Rochdale area. In the aftermath of this morning's activity we will have drugs services workers working with users in the area to help them kick the habit.
I would like to take this opportunity to warn other drug dealers in the vicinity that we are currently gathering evidence in respect of other individuals suspected of involvement in drug dealing in Rochdale. Greater Manchester Police will be taking action against these individuals in the future. We are committed to ensuring that there is no place for these people to hide."
