Body found in the canal is Derick Shaw

Police have today, Thursday 8 December 2005, confirmed that a man whose body was found in the canal in Rochdale is Derick Shaw.
At approximately 11.30am on Wednesday 7 December 2005, police were called to Well I'Th' Lane, Rochdale following reports that the body of a man had been discovered.
Officers attended and an underwater search team recovered the body of 57-year-old Derick from the canal.
Derick (DOB 11/04/48) of Ethel Court, off Church Road, who is more commonly known by the surname Basnett, was last seen at the Queens Pub on Milkstone Road at around 9pm on Thursday 10 November. He left the pub between 9.15pm and 9.30pm and had not been seen since.
There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Derick's death and the matter will be referred to the coroner.
