Get involved in the vision for Kirkholt

Date published: 09/03/2006

Kirkholt residents are being urged to get involved with a steering group set up to ensure local people take an active role in shaping new plans to transform the area.

The Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder aims to invest millions of pounds over a number of years to improve Kirkholt by providing a better mix of modern housing coupled with improved social rented homes and a safer environment.

The steering group is a partnership of all stakeholders with an interest in the future of Kirkholt.

Donna Bowler, Rochdale Borough Area Renewal Manager, said: “Tenants and residents have a leading role to play in influencing the ideas for changes in Kirkholt. Working in partnership with Rochdale Council, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and consultants Mouchel Parkman, residents and tenants will over the next eight months help devise the vision for Kirkholt and start planning changes to improve the area.”

The group will meet on a monthly basis and will also be involved in holding open days, workshops and area meetings throughout the estate to ensure that everybody living and working in Kirkholt has their say.

Donna Bowler added: “We are looking for more resident or tenant representatives from Mornington Road, Rhodes Crescent, Tavistock Road, Aldwich, Great Gates Road, Balderstone Road/Everest Street and surrounding areas.  I would urge local people to get involved so that they can influence the future of Kirkholt.”

The next steering group meeting takes place at 6.15pm on Tuesday 28 March at Kirkholt Community Centre, The Strand.
