Bus pass problems specific to Rochdale says Danczuk

Date published: 22/08/2008

Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, has been sorting out an unprecedented number of problems around elderly people’s bus passes.

Mr Danczuk said: “Steve in my office noticed that we were getting a lot of older residents phoning us asking for help because their applications for the new style bus pass – which allows them to travel free anywhere in the country – has not been processed. Apparently, Greater Manchester Public Transport Authority has found there has been a real problem with applications specifically from Rochdale and this is being further investigated.

“We are getting so many enquiries about bus passes that former transport boss, Allen Brett, has been drafted in to help sort them all out. We’ve all been pulling together to help older residents get their new bus passes. I have to say, Allen has been doing an excellent job.”

Importantly for elderly residents Mr Danczuk added: “Anyone who is experiencing difficulties getting their new bus pass sorted out should remember that their old one is valid until the 30 September. If bus drivers tell you anything different you should insist that your old pass is still valid. If anyone is having difficulties with their application for a new bus pass they can contact my office on 01706 750135, leaving a clear, concise message, by emailing me at simon4rochdale@hotmail.com, or writing to me at Rochdale Labour HQ, 89-91 Oldham Road, Rochdale, OL16 5QR.

Got my pass ages ago, no problem.
There was plenty of notice for people to apply.

Simon, surely you can't expect our elderly residents to start picking fights with bus drivers who might like to argue the point. Also, I assume that all bus drivers do speak english to start with?
