Cash boost targets youth crime

Rochdale Council and its partners are to receive more than £750,000 over the next three years as part of a government drive to prevent and tackle youth crime.

Rochdale is one of sixteen areas across the North West and 69 in England to be offered a share of £56.5million. The money will be used to tackle youth crime through a mixture of early intervention, support and enforcement.

Welcoming the news, deputy council leader Irene Davidson said: “The majority of our young people are well adjusted, responsible members of the community. This money will build on the excellent work already being done by our Safer Communities Partnership to ensure that those that are more susceptible to becoming involved in crime are given incentives to stay on the right track. It’ll also help to ensure that those youngsters who take part in crime and anti-social behaviour are dealt with effectively.”
