Firework display goes up in smoke

There will be no funfair and firework display in Rochdale town centre this Guy Fawkes Night.
The traditional display has taken place in the town centre for years but there will be no chance to see the spectacular fireworks this 5 November because Rochdale Town Centre Management, who organise the event, are unable to provide funding.
Town Centre Manager Debbie O'Brien said: "Unfortunately as a self funding company we are unable to provide the Funfair & Fireworks event in the town centre this year."
"Although the event is popular and well attended by families around the Borough we felt that there are always other bonfire events so that people aren’t disappointed and unable to attend any fireworks event.
"Hopefully we can deliver the event again in the future."
Town Centre Management can not fund the display after hosting the Feel Good Festival, which was a successful two day event held at the end of July. TCM also hosted the second annual Town Centre Business Awards last month, which again proved popular.
The team is now looking forward to the Christmas Lights Switch On, on Thursday 13 November, and a special reindeer parade, which will take place on Sunday 7 December.
The closest bonfire night event to the town centre will be at Cronkeyshaw Common.
Have Your Say
They can provide funding for Eid decorations and celebrations though. These fireworks were the only thing Rochdale did that I was actually impressed with.

What a shame that a family event lovely past displays in the past can't take place. Seeing who won these awards I would much rather see a fireworks display that can be enjoyed by the general public
