Police chief death inquest begins

Date published: 06/10/2008

The inquest into the death of former Greater Manchester Police chief constable begins today (Monday 6 October).

Michael Todd was found dead on Mount Snowdon in March and the two-day inquest will be attended by his wife Carolyn.

It is set to be an emotional time for Mr Todd's wife after it emerged after his death, that he had been involved with around a dozen women in the past five years.

Fears for his life emerged after he sent a series of emotional text messages to close female friends, including a businesswoman with whom he had been having an affair.

The inquest will take place in North Wales. Coroner Dewi Pritchard-Jones will explore whether Mr Todd committed suicide, died through 'misadventure' or could return an open verdict.

Mr Todd's body was found 100 metres from the summit of Mount Snowdon but it later emerged that he had not fallen to his death. Drinking from a bottle of gin had left well over the drink-driving limit and he may have died from hypothermia.
