Teachers urged to strike again
Date published: 07/10/2008
Schools in Rochdale could be affected by a second teachers strike this year.
Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), the UK's biggest teaching union, are being urged to vote yes to further action over pay.
The union has sent out ballot papers to 250,000 members.
The NUT hosted a one day strike in April this year, which saw 23 Rochdale schools forced to close. The strike over pay was the first in 21 years.
Teachers have been offered a 2.3 per cent pay rise for next September.
NUT acting general secretary Christine Blower said: “Teachers do not take strike action lightly. Every day of a child’s education is precious.
“It is time to value teachers properly. The action will be in the interests of children and teachers alike.”
