Man crushed at work dies in hospital

A man who was crushed in a horrific work accident has died in hospital.

The 47-year-old was being kept alive by a life support machine after being crushed by a large metal sheet at Renold Gears, Milnrow, on Thursday (27 November).

Fire crews and paramedics rushed to the scene and the man was taken to Hope Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

He died on the hospital ward the next day, Friday (28 November).

A spokeswoman from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: “The 47-year-old man critically injured at work in Rochdale on Thursday 27 November 2008 has died.

“The man was taken to hospital following the incident just before 9am at Renold Gears on Station Road in Milnrow.

“However, his injuries were too severe and he died on the afternoon of Friday 28 November.

“This incident remains with the Heath and Safety Executive for further inquiries.”

Rochdale Online is currently awaiting a response from HSE.

Renold Gears is part of a large engineering group which manufactures and sells industrial chains and related power transmission products.
