CCTV stills of armed robbery in Middleton

Date published: 27/02/2007

Police have released CCTV stills of two men after an armed robbery at an off license in Middleton on Wednesday 21 February 2007.

Just before 10.45pm the two female members of staff were alone in the SPAR shop on Stannycliffe Road when two men came in.

One of the men was armed with a machete. He threatened the women, demanding that they hand over cash from the till.

Fearing for their safety, one of the women opened the till and gave the armed man the cash inside.

Once they had the money the men left the shop and got into a dark coloured car, which they then drove away in the direction of the main road nearby.

The armed man was wearing a balaclava and is described as around 5ft 10in tall and was wearing a black jacket at the time of the offence.

The other man was not believed to be wearing a balaclava at the time of the robbery. He is described as white with a spotty face and wearing gold-framed glasses.

Neither of the woman were injured during the robbery, but were both left very shaken by it.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may recognise the men pictured, is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4644 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
