Langley event to raise profile of neighbourhood activities
Date published: 13/02/2007
A fun packed event for all the family will take place on Saturday 17 February at Furrow Sports Centre, Langley, to celebrate and promote the many activities and projects that have taken place to improve Langley over the past few years. The event organised by Rochdale Council’s Langley Regeneration Team is intended to raise the profile of Neighbourhood Renewal activity in the area.
Jacqui Jacobs, Langley Project Officer, and one of the event organisers said: "This is a free event and we’re hopeful that many of the residents of Langley will come along. With this event we want to shout about Neighbourhood Renewal and celebrate the achievements that we have all made so far.
"Almost every project that has been actively working towards the regeneration of Langley over the last few years will be present. It will also give us the chance to meet with local residents and get them actively involved in the Neighbourhood Action Plans which are going to shape the future of Langley."
Projects include: Middleton Literacy Project, Women's Enterprise, In 2 Work, Kingsway Training for Jobs, Reducing Teenage Pregnancy, Langley Neighbourhood Wardens, Langley Volunteer Centre, Community Drugs Outreach and Learn Local. Local organisations that are delivering vital services to the Langley community will also be present such as Connexions, Greater Manchester Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
Entertainment includes Langley Skylight circus, Demesne Girls Group and McGowanettes Morris Troupe. Other family fun activities on offer will include: clowns, circus skills workshops, cycling proficiency lessons, cheerleading workshops, football taster sessions, a "Buckin Bronco’, interactive quizzes with prizes, face painting, henna tattooing, nail art and free holistic therapy treatments. Also on offer will be free "passport to leisure’ passes and free food.
