Woman seriously injured in collision

Date published: 06/03/2007

A 69-year-old woman was seriously injured when the car she was driving was in collision with a wall in Rochdale on  Monday 5 March.

Traffic officers were called to Red Lane at its junction with Athol Street just after 2.00pm following reports that a Vauxhall Corsa had collided with the Jackson amp; Jackson building on the corner of that junction.

Police went to the scene where they found the woman had been taken to Rochdale Infirmary suffering from a broken leg and injuries to her arms and chest. Her condition is described as serious but stable.

A spokesperson for Jackson amp; Jackson said: "We heard the car smash into the wall and felt the building shake, we have no windows in that wall so we went outside to see what it was and saw the car and woman; we helped her to feel comfortable and phoned an ambulance, the ambulance was there in minutes."

Red Lane was closed for a short period whilst checks were made to ensure the building was safe.
