New HMRPCT web site set to advise and inform

Date published: 13/01/2007

A brand new Heywood, Middleton amp; Rochdale Primary Care Trust (HMRPCT) web site that will inform and advise the public about primary care in the area and promote healthy lifestyles is under development by Rochdale Online.

The creation of a web site that will provide people with a wealth of health information at the push of a button, which is interesting and educational, is a top priority for the PCT.

The PCT sought expertise from companies who could ensure that their vision became a reality. Following a thorough assessment of all the proposals the successful bidder was confirmed as Rochdale Online for offering value for money and respecting accessibility issues.

The web site will host advice on stopping smoking, diet and exercise, sexual health, oral hygiene as well providing information about primary care services available in the area.

There will be a dedicated section for child health information, highlighting topics that are important to young people an audience that has been overlooked in the past.

There will also be additional features that will enable people to view health adverts that are currently being broadcasted in GP surgeries and clinics via the Life Channel and they may also listen to the health show broadcast live on Crescent Community Radio through the PC.

Equipped with useful links to other important health related web sites it is hoped the new HMRPCT web site will become the first point of reference to access local health information for the public.

Trevor Purt, Chief Executive of Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale PCT believes: "usage of the internet has become a frequent source by which patients and the public to access information on the PCT, local health and social care services in their area within the comfort of their own homes. I hope the new web site will be helpful and informative for local people."

Pauline Journeaux, Rochdale Online Managing Director said: "We are delighted that HMRPCT chose Rochdale Online to develop their new web site.

"We have a wealth of experience in developing high quality solutions for a wide range of businesses and individuals. Our collaborative approach, creative input, and emphasis on economical solutions has allowed us to develop an impressive and diverse client list.

"Our brief is to design a visually appealing high quality site, that is easy to navigate, quick to load pages, search engine friendly and importantly is accessible and complies with the latest Web Standards and the Disability Discrimination Act.

"The solution will be a bespoke site and content management system that interacts with an MSSQL database and allows designated staff in diverse geographic locations to easily and securely manage site content through a web-based user interface, to help ensure that the site is packed with up-to-date useful information.
