Eid Lights switched on

Date published: 23/10/2006

Three local schoolchildren, Adil Qureshi from Deeplish Community Primary School, Waqas Sheik from Saint John's RC Primary School and Adil Haroon, Broadfield Primary School, switched on the 'Eid Lights' to mark the Muslim festival of Eid in Rochdale on Friday 20 October in a ceremony at the Tweedale Street end of Milkstone Road.

The children arrived by limousine (provided by A-list Limos) and the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Jean Hornby, also attended the event.

The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, during which many Muslims fast during daylight hours.  Celebration of Eid includes exchanging gifts and greetings, and eating special meals.
