Public transport boost for Milkstone and Deeplish

Date published: 31/08/2006

A new door-to-door public transport service is being launched in the Milkstone and Deeplish areas of Rochdale on Monday 4 September.

Milkstone and Deeplish Local Link, which is being funded by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive, will collect people from outside their home to travel to destinations in the local area.

The service will also provide links to Sandbrook Park, the Tesco’s on Edinburgh Way, and other public transport services at Rochdale bus and train stations. It will be operated by Rochdale Community Transport using a low floor minibus, which can be used by passengers with wheelchairs or child buggies.

GMPTE’s Service Delivery Director, Michael Renshaw, said: "We’re committed to ensuring that everyone has access to public transport to get out and about in their local community.
"Local Link provides a lifeline for people living in areas where there is a low demand for conventional bus services. It makes it easy for people to reach the shops, health facilities or work without needing a car.

"Milkstone and Deeplish Local Link can be used by anyone living in the local area and I’d encourage people to give it a go."

The Local Link minibus is shared with other passengers and the service can be used from Monday to Saturday between 8am and 5.30pm. Passengers can book one or more trips by calling 08456 05 55 05 at least one hour before they want to travel.

Milkstone and Deeplish Local Link replaces the 437 bus service. The adult fare is £1.50 for a single journey or £2.50 for a return. Concessionary fares are 50p for a single or 80p for a return. Weekly tickets are also available.

Detailed information on all public transport services in Greater Manchester is available on the GMPTE website (www.gmpte.com) or by calling Traveline on 0870 608 2 608. Lines are open from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 8pm at weekends and on Bank Holidays. Textphone users should ring 0870 241 2216.
