Tony Blair in a dustbin on Yorkshire Street!
Date published: 29/08/2006
Rochdale’s shoppers were amazed to see a Tony Blair effigy in a dustbin, together with the replica of a Trident nuclear missile, on Yorkshire Street on Saturday 26 August.
"Blair-in-a-Bin’ had been brought to Rochdale centre by members of Littleborough and District Peace Group and Rochdale Stop the War Coalition to help publicise the "Time To Go’ demonstration in Manchester on Saturday 23 September 2006.
"Blair-in-a-Bin’ will be at a public meeting at Rochdale Town Hall at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday 12 September when speakers, including Paul Rowen MP, Amy Gilligan of Youth and Student CND and a representative of the Stop The War Coalition will be addressing the question, "How do we get Peace in the Middle East?’
'Blair-in-a-Bin' creators, Philip and Amy Gilligan from Littleborough will, also, be pushing "Blair-in-a-Bin’ from Rochdale Town Hall, via Castleton and Middleton to Albert Square on 23 September 2006. They will be joining thousands of other anti-war and anti-nuclear campaigners who are expected in Manchester on the eve of the Labour Party conference.
Philip Gilligan said: "It will be a long walk to Manchester and we shall need to set a brisk pace to get "Blair-in-a-Bin’ to Albert Square for 1.00 p.m. However, it is very important that we deliver the clearest possible message to the likes of Blair, Brown, Reid and Woolas; it is "Time To Go!’
