Littleborough Field of Hope
Date published: 14/09/2006
A very special event will take place on Saturday 23 September, Littleborough’s Field of Hope is being organised by Marie Curie Cancer Care and will take place on the old gas works site. Residents are being asked to dedicate a daffodil in memory of a loved one, when they buy a bulb the name of their loved one will be written within a book of remembrance. It is hoped the field will be a place where people can seek comfort.
Viv Dale, from the Marie Curie Cancer Care Team said: "Many people will benefit from this event, obviously we will be raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, however, we will also improve and give the Old Gas Works a facelift and have a place where people can remember a lost loved one. I hope as many people as possible can get involved, if you can’t come on the day then please make a donation to a very worthwhile cause."
Throughout September and October the charity will be asking people in Littleborough to buy a daffodil and have a name written within a book of remembrance.
Paul Rowen MP said: "This is a very special event and I am delighted to be able to support the good work of the Marie Curie Cancer Care Team. The Mayor, Councillor Jean Hornby, will also be there to add her support. This is a great idea and I am delighted to see Littleborough benefiting. Please put your hand in your pocket, raise money for charity, improve the area and remember a loved one – everybody wins in this great project. I am also delighted to see local primary schools involved with the Groundwork Trust."
The Field of Hope will be launched on Saturday 23 September, meeting at 1pm at Littleborough Coach House. All guests will be invited to plant a bulb in memory of a loved one, following which local primary schools, supervised by Groundwork Trust, will plant the remaining bulbs that have been kindly donated by Gordon Rigg's.
