In town without my car

Rochdale council will take part in the UK-wide initiative 'In Town Without My Car' in September.
Council employees will receive a special peak any bus DaySaver which is only being given out by selected local councils in Greater Manchester to employees who pledge to give up their car and try the bus for one day from 16 to 24 September inclusive.
Employees can choose any day from 16 to 24 September to use their DaySaver on over 50 bus companies in Greater Manchester. It can be used at any time of day so it is perfect for getting to and from work, even if you have to stay late.
'In Town Without My Car' is intended to make people think about the effect cars have on the urban environment. Imagine how much more pleasant and safe towns and cities would be without the noise and pollution caused by cars. Part of the problem lies with the fact that they have always been a feature of our towns and cities - we’ve become accustomed to the noise and danger!
"In Town Without My Car’ day will showcase alternatives to the car - and the benefits that can be gained from using them. So what can you do to make a difference? All you have to do is make a trip that you would normally make using your car by alternative means. Locally that might mean catching a bus, train or tram. Why not try walking or cycling to the station or stop?
