Local History Display at Cutgate Baptist Church
Date published: 23/05/2006
Over the weekend of the Norden Carnival, 17/18 June, Cutgate Baptist Church, Edenfield Road, will hold a display of Local History. Much of the information has not been seen before, and includes maps, photographs, and church records - these will be deposited with the Local Studies Section of Touchstones after the weekend.
Cutgate Baptist Church goes back to before 1844, it was first built as a school in 1849 and some of the original school records as well as minutes of teachers meetings from around that period, along with other information, form part of the material to be displayed. Other records and photo's from local people, and from Touchsones archives, will also be on display.
The Church is hoping to add to the collection and any photo's and records of events on Cutgate Sports Ground (where the Shopping Precinct now stands) would be welcome.
Pastor Brian Drury said: "If your readers have anything relating to this area (Cutgate, Caldershaw, from Denehust Park up to Norden.) and would like to display it, please ask them to get in touch with me, Pastor Brian Drury, on 07941 042184, or leave a message on the church telephone, 01706 647863, and I will be in touch as soon as possible."
