Chairman Appointed at Pennine Acute Trust

John Jesky, acting chairman of The Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust since March this year, has been appointed to the permanent position by the independent Appointments Commission.

John said: "I am delighted to be appointed chairman of Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Though this is a challenging time for the trust, I’m looking forward to working with fellow board members and staff at every level to ensure the trust continues to improve services to the population we serve and develop a vision for the future to enable the trust to secure Foundation Trust status."

John was previously a non-executive director of Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority and chairman of its audit committee. He was also a non-executive director of Salford Community NHS Trust from 1994 to 1998.

John is also a trustee and treasurer of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and is a governor of the Royal Northern College of Music. He has a business background and for most of his career worked in the food industry at a senior level.

Philip Smith, chairman of the SHA, said "I am pleased that John has accepted this challenging job. The trust needs strong leadership at this time and John is the person to provide it."

The position has a remuneration of £21,882 a year and the term of office is for four years from 1 June. John has no other ministerial appointments and he is not politically active.
