Springhill Hospice - New Wing Officially Opened

Former Mayor, Ashley Dearnley, accompanied by Mayoress Beryl Wright, in one of their last engagements as their year of office came to a close, opened the newly constructed wing at Springhill Hospice on Tuesday 16 May.
Councillor Dearnley had nominated Springhill Hospice as his mayoral charity during his year of offcie with a target of raising £20,000 to help fund the new wing. The target was exceeded by more than double as £41,000 was raised.
The wing provides a number of new beds, a special bath and easy access for patients to the beautifully landscaped gardens.
Cllr Deanley said after the opening:
"I felt greatly honoured and humbled to open the extention which houses the bath.
"It was a very moving occasion to mark the end of what has been a wonderful year.
"I am delighted at all the money that has been raised thanks to the great genorosity of Rochdale people, and know it will be very well used at Springhill Hospice, which has such a wonderful team of staff and volunteers under the excellent leadership of the chief executive Christine Webb."
