Posters have designs on site safety

Date published: 20/06/2006

Pupils at Hamer Community Primary School in Rochdale have worked closely with construction firm Shepherd Construction to design posters to raise safety awareness among pupils and staff. The posters highlight some of the potential dangers associated with construction sites.

Winning designs from each year group have been enlarged and are now displayed on the site hoardings, highly visible to anyone passing the site.

Lead member for Children, Families amp; Schools, Councillor David Clayton said "I'm very pleased that Shepherd Construction are working so closely with the school and pupils to reinforce the safety issues around the new school being built close to the existing school building."

Hamer Community Primary School is part of Rochdale Council's £50m New Schools Programme. Major construction work is currently taking place adjacent to the Hamer site off Albert Royds Street, which will see a new building provided for Hamer C.P. School, co-located with a new school for primary children with special educational needs.

The new special school will be called Springside School and the Hamer campus is due to open in September 2007.
