New £500,000 jobs help for young people in Rochdale

Date published: 02/04/2008

Rochdale Training has announced the start of a new £500,000 scheme to give local young people a secure future career. Backed by the government’s Learning & Skills Council, the scheme funds apprenticeship jobs in areas such as engineering, business administration and customer care for 16 - 19 year olds, who want to “earn while they learn.”

Tony Rothwell, Commercial Manager, comments: “This is a great government scheme for local youngsters and their parents, who may be worried about their children leaving school with no job or no college place. Apprenticeships offer a full-time job with a local company at good rates of pay as well as structured training to do the job better.

“We provide a kind of matchmaking service between the young people and local employers, helping the youngsters find the job that’s best for them and the employers find the most suitable applicant. The local economy benefits too as employers are helped with the cost of the training. Anyone interested in accessing the government funding should contact us as the places will go quickly.”
