FA Cup coming to Newhey - seriously!
Joint owners of the Wagon and Horses, Newhey, Norman Brogan and Andy Matthew are celebrating their good fortune in bringing the FA Cup to Newhey.
Mr Brogan and Mr Matthew have won a Carlsberg sales competition and the prize is to have the FA Cup on display in their pub, the Wagon and Horses, on the 16 April from 7.00pm. A photographer will be taking free photographs and offering prints of any football fan who wants to go along and see the FA Cup.
Mr Brogan said: "This is the first and probably the last time the FA Cup will come to Newhey, and we want to make sure as many people as possible get the chance to have their photograph taken with the FA Cup. If mums and dads bring their children along in their football shirts they can take their own photographs."
Andy Matthew has invited along the Rev Graham Lindley, vicar of the fire damaged St Thomas Church, as part of the fundraising efforts going on in Newhey towards the church rebuilding fund. The Reverend Lindley said: "I will be bringing my grandson Archie, aged 2, along. We are both staunch Stockport County fans".
Mr Brogan and Mr Matthew said next on the agenda for the Wagon and Horses is the World Cup, but that may take some time!
