Date published: 10/04/2008
Pennine Acute Trust, which runs Rochdale Infirmary, is one of four trusts in the country short-listed for an award for their patient data coding.
The CHKS Data Quality Award recognises excellence in clinical coding.
Treatment codes are allocated to every patient admitted to hospital and tracked to make sure the patients’ details are accurately recorded and available to clinicians.
Pennine Acute Trust was short-listed for the award for its high standards of completeness, accuracy and level of detail.
Karen James, Executive Director of Operations at Pennine Acute Trust, said: “We have, over the past few years, been working very hard to ensure we improve data quality and this has been achieved from working closely with our clinical teams. We are extremely pleased that this work has been acknowledged.”
The awards ceremony takes place in London on 22 April.
CHKS are the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services. Director of Research, James Coles said: “Hospitals are under pressure to improve their coding because of the impact it has on clinical and financial performance. The trusts that have been short-listed are driving improvement forward by demonstrating that high standards in coding are achievable.”
