Assistant Chief Constable appointed
Ian Hopkins has been appointed as an Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) by Greater Manchester Police Authority.
ACC Hopkins is more than well-equipped to take up the challenge having spent the last five years as a Divisional Commander in Cheshire Constabulary, firstly as a Superintendent in the Chester and Ellesmere Port Division (2004) and more recently as a Chief Superintendent in the Eastern Area (2005 onwards).
In his new role, the senior officer will be responsible for providing leadership to all officers and staff within GMP.
He will ensure the force continually improves and delivers its vision of fighting crime and protecting people.
He will also take command of critical and major incidents when necessary and will assist in the general operational and organisational efficiency of the Force.
ACC Hopkins is aged 40. He worked in Cheshire Constabulary’s Corporate Development Department before taking up the Chester & Ellesmere Port post.
ACC Hopkins is one of five ACCs at GMP. The individual portfolios for the officers are currently under review however they are split into the following:
- ACC Criminal Justice and Diversity
- ACC Territorial Policing North
- ACC Territorial Policing South
- ACC Crime Operations and Internal Affairs
- ACC Specialist Operations and Counter Terrorism Branch
The salary for an ACC is set nationally. It is currently £84,003 reaching £98,004 per annum. Benefits include a car.
