Ding Quarry campaigners defeated!

Date published: 23/04/2008

A chilly April day greeted about 100 Ding Quarry campaigners to the Black Dog pub grounds for a battle royal: A motley crew from DQAG faced the Shamrocks Tug O' War team. Victory finally went to the Shamrocks despite a valiant effort from the local team.

The fun event was hosted by comedian Jimmy Cricket who gave prizes to Meanwood School pupils for their winning poster design.

A barbeque serving spicy lamb burgers and a stall offering items including Stop Ding Quarry T-Shirts and Mugs helped to raise funds for the community fight against the monstrous quarrying plans.

Campaigner Rhys Watkins reflected on the event: "A tug O' war is a good metaphor- as a community we are all pulling together - and unlike our battle against the Mighty Shamrocks, we will win against DP Williams."
