Rochdale Council is encouraging residents to keep their fridges cold during this National Food Safety Week, which ends on Friday (13 June).
The Council is promoting the Week by asking people to make sure their fridges are chilled to five degrees centigrade.
They are giving away 150 free fridge thermometers to the first 150 applicants to help ensure that the town's fridges are chilled.
A Council spokesman said: "Keeping fridges at a temperature to ensure food stays fresh for longer ultimately means it will be safer to eat, and therefore minimising the risks of food poisoning and sickness."
To claim your free fridge thermometer email environmental.health2@rochdale.gov.uk with the subject “Get Chilled” and include your name and contact details. Alternatively write to Planning & Regulation, Rochdale Borough Council, Telegraph House, Baillie Street, Rochdale, OL16 1JH, and mark “Get Chilled” on your envelope.
You can buy fridge thermometers cheaply from most major supermarkets and chemists.
