Shopping centre evacuated due to bomb scare

Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre and the surrounding area was closed and sealed off to the public at around 12.30pm today (Wednesday 26 December) due to a bomb scare.
Police moved quickly to evacuate people - shoppers had to leave their bags behind as the area was cordoned off.
The scare was due to a suspicious package being left outside Boots and the area cordoned off extended from Greggs Bakery to the Showboat on Yorkshire Street through to Newgate.
The bomb squad was informed and the area remained closed this afternoon.
