Fuel protest will effect M62 traffic

A fuel protest by HGV drivers on the M6 this Saturday (14 June) is expected to have an impact on M62 traffic.

The protest will begin at 9am at Lymm Truck stop, Cheshire, and then travel north along the M6 at a speed of just 40mph, to junction 35, Carnforth, before going back to Lymm on the M6 southbound.

Chief Inspector Jon Donnelly from Lancashire Constabulary said: “Our advice to motorists would be to only travel if you need to as the M6 will be extremely busy. It will also have a knock on effect to those people using the connecting roads especially the M56 and the M62.

“If you do need to travel then we would advise people to allow plenty of extra time and listen to their local radio station who through traffic link will have regular updates."

Some junctions on the M6 will be closed while the convoy travels up and down the motorway. Police expect the protest to finish at 3pm but they believe traffic will remain heavy for a period of time after that.

Inspector Donnelly continued: “The organiser has been in contact with police during the planning of this protest and all the forces as well as the Highways Agency will be working together to ensure the safety of road users and the protestors.

“On behalf of all forces involved, I would like to reassure the public that there will be a number of police vehicles monitoring the convoy with our main aim to ensure the safety of all road users.”
