Sharp drop in water levels
Date published: 29/11/2007
Water level at Piethorne Reservoir, Ogden very low for November.
A summer of floods hasn’t prevented some local reservoir supplies hitting a low water mark.
Provisional figures from the Met Office show that autumn is on course to be one of the driest on record across the UK.
And at Piethorne the water level has now dropped considerably.
But there is no cause for alarm at present, according to United Utilities.
A spokesman said: "Piethorne is currently 28 per cent full but it is part of a group of reservoirs where the average level is 55 per cent.
"We shall be taking water out of the other reservoirs to balance the levels to ensure continuity of supply."
