Rochdale's Most Successful and Improved Schools

As part of his Annual Report 2002/03, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools, David Bell, has identified 415 outstanding schools and colleges across the country, drawn from those inspected during the academic year 2002/03.

In Rochdale, the following schools received an outstanding report from their inspection in 2002/03 and provide a high standard of education for the young people they serve.

1. St Peter's Roman Catholic Primary School, Middleton
2. St Vincent's Roman Catholic Primary School, Rochdale
3. Middleton Technology School, Middleton

Schools on the list stand out as having done particularly well on virtually all fronts, or as having achieved highly against the odds. Where colleges of further education are included, they are those that are very well led and provide a consistently high standard of education and training for their students. The Annual Report 2002/03 also identifies 122 schools nationally that have improved significantly such that they have been removed from special measures. It also, for the first time, recognizes two colleges and three sixth forms that have improved such that they are no longer judged to be inadequate.
