Rochdale’s 10th Mega Mela

Rochdale’s 10th Mega Mela was held at Springhill School on Saturday 10 July, and was yet again a roaring success. The Mela brought together a wealth of talent and excellence from around the borough. Organised by the Multi Asian Arts Centre the essential ingredients of music; dance, sports, stalls, food and a fun fair made it a great day out for the whole family to enjoy.

The programme of performances on stage was continuous throughout the day, from 11.00am through to the close of the Mela at 8.00pm. With over 20 performances from bands and groups from different cultures, ages and backgrounds, including; The High, Almelda Girl & Descarga with their Latin music, and Shola music group. Skylight Circus, Rochdale Youth Dance Company, a fashion show and Sports Relief presentations were also on stage.

Among the special guests was the Mayor of Rochdale Cllr. Angela Coric, Lorna Fizsimonds MP, Zulfiqar Ali from the Lahore Arts Council, Ch. Salah-Ud-Din the Consul General Pakistan, Lynne Heslop from the British Council-Education and training and the Head Teacher of Springhill High School, Mrs A Bolt.

The Rochdale Mega Mela, now firmly established in the annual calendar of events was enjoyed by thousands of people from all over Rochdale and the North West. It was a truly multicultural event and provided a fun day out for the whole family.
